Celebrating a Decade of Excellence: The 10th Anniversary of the Jan Atkin Prize
On 3 November 2023, University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) celebrated a decade of excellence. The 10th anniversary celebration of the Jan Atkin Prize took place at the Future Students Centre in Petaling Jaya, and this prestigious event was graced by the donor himself, Professor Brian Atkin, who served as CEO and Provost at UNM from 2003 to 2008.
The Jan Atkin Prize, awarded annually to three outstanding students who excel both academically and in their contributions to campus life and the community, was the highlight of the celebration. To honour this milestone, we also invited alumni and past winners of the Jan Atkin Prize to join the festivities.
The day began with Professor Brian Atkin and his wife visiting the Semenyih campus, where they met with Interim Provost Professor Sarah Metcalfe and other management board members before embarking on a campus tour.
They then proceeded to the Future Students Centre in Petaling Jaya for the main event.
David Ouchterlonie, Associate Director of Global Engagement, hosted the ceremony before Professor Brian Atkin and Sarah Metcalfe delivered inspiring speeches, reflecting on the prize’s legacy and the exceptional achievements of its recipients.
The 2023 winners, Muhamad Hishamudin bin Mohmad Hasim, Kon Li Ann, and Lavinya A/P Puvanathan, were honoured with the Jan Atkin Prize for their remarkable contributions. The celebration concluded with a delightful dinner and networking session, fostering connections among alumni, past winners, and current students.
The 10th anniversary of the Jan Atkin Prize was indeed a memorable event, celebrating a decade of academic excellence and community spirit at UNM.
