The official launch of UNM in September 2000 at the MISC building in Kuala Lumpur included three Royal Visits – the late HRH Tuanku Ja'afar ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman; HRH Sultan Azlan Shah and HRH Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex and his wife Sophie, The Countess of Wessex.

Both HRH Tuanku Ja'afar and HRH Sultan Azlan Shah were alumni of the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, where they studied law.

25 Years of Excellence: Building a Legacy of Impact, Together

Since our establishment in 2000, the University of Nottingham Malaysia has experienced remarkable growth, reflecting our unwavering commitment to delivering a holistic and world-class educational experience.

In 2010, UNM received an 'Excellent' rating in the Malaysian Higher Education Rating System (SETARA), maintaining this distinction for several years. In 2022, the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) introduced a new SETARA rating, where UNM was awarded a 'Competitive' rating, setting a new benchmark for UNM from its previous rating.

In 2006, UNM opened a satellite campus by establishing the Kuala Lumpur Teaching Centre (KLTC) at Chulan Tower. This strategic move enhanced accessibility for working professionals and postgraduate students, offering a convenient city-based location for selected postgraduate programmes. It also acted as a strategic hub for collaborations, partnerships, and outreach activities.

Aligned with Malaysia’s aspirations to become an international hub for higher education, UNM launched its Future Students Centre in Petaling Jaya in September 2023. This milestone marks a significant step in UNM’s strategy to expand its reach and strengthen engagement with prospective students and strategic partners.
