The Setting and Achieving Goals workshop was the first workshop organised by the Alumni and Donor Relations Office for 2020. The workshop was held on 18 January 2020 at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Teaching Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
This one-day workshop was designed to help alumni clearly define their goals and to set their purpose and direction of life. Setting goals is a process whilst achieving goals is about believing in the process.
The morning started with a welcome address by Josephine Dionisappu, UNM PR and Communications Manager, followed by the programme introduction by Alex Choong, the trainer. Alex is a certified professional trainer and coach with 25 years in the ICT industry and 10 years of experience in consulting services and strategic planning.
Four sessions were conducted during the workshop. The sessions required participants to write their goals, break them down into details, simplify them and develop action plans for the goals set. Participants were provided with a handout and several maps including the Personal Ecology Map, Life Categories Map and the Wheel of Life to see how goals setting was connected to their individual values. By the end of the workshop, participants learned a SMART way to define their goals using GPS.
The workshop used a range of learning tools and methods, including instructor-led training, role-play activities, props and open learning. Before the workshop ended, all participants took part in the Yee Sang tossing ceremony, in-conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration happening the following week.
The alumni found this workshop informative, worthwhile and a good start for the new year.
