University of Nottingham Alumni is current WHO Director-General
Description
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, (WHO) is a senior alumni of the University of Nottingham. Dr Ghebreyesus is the first WHO Director-General to have been elected by the World Health Assembly and is also the first person from the African region to serve as WHO's chief officer.

Dr Nafizah Goriman Khan from the University of Nottingham Malaysia's Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering was recently made Honorary Colonel of the Volunteer Reserve Unit in the Royal Malaysian Air Force.This is the first time that such an award has been conferred to an academic of a private university thus, giving recognition to the contributions from specialists and experts of private tertiary institutions.

Harnessing nature to restore riverbanks in Malaysia

Researchers from the University of Nottingham in Malaysia have completed the first phase of a riverbank restoration project in Sarawak that uses natural materials. The project is being undertaken in partnership with WWF-Malaysia, aims to protect and restore eroding banks along the River Trusan using natural materials, as well as introducing a range of other ecologically-based measures to avoid flooding and erosion in the future.
