Title: Malaysian Tualang Honey and its immune-stimulating properties

Abstract:

At present, honey is one of the last untreated natural foods in the world with very high nutritional value and benefits to human health. The Malaysian Tualang Honey (Koompassia excelsa) is collected from the Asian rock bees’ hives, commonly found on Tualang trees in Malaysia. Over the years, Malaysian Tualang Honey has been proven to have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and wound healing potential. However, the immunomodulatory role of this honey has not been studied extensively. Hence, the objectives of this project are to study the immunoregulatory effects of Tualang Honey and to dissect the mechanism by which Tualang Honey exerts its function leading towards the ‘rediscovery’ of honey for potential use in therapeutic modern medicine.
