Project Manager; Management and Ecology of Malaysian Elephants (MEME)

We are seeking suitable candidates to apply for the Project Manager (internally known as Research Associate) position to work in Management and Ecology of Malaysian Elephants (MEME) project. This is a temporary position for a duration of 10 months.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To work with Principal Investigator and co-investigators in planning and implementation of activities under MEME.
  • To work with Finance Executive to develop and manage project budgets and grants with strict adherence to standard operating protocols provided by the funders, university and MEME project.
  • To manage a team of staff and students in executing tasks under the project and foster teamwork.
  • Responsible for facilitating and ensuring hiring and staffing needs are met for various purposes (interns/volunteers/temporary staff/daily paid staff/ permanent staff)
  • Work closely with various departments in university (Faculty, Research and Knowledge Exchange Hub, HR, Finance and others) to ensure smooth progress of Project activities.
  • Maintain a close rapport with stakeholders as required by the project for collaborative work.
  • Keep close rapport with staff and various funders in ensuring project KPIs and governance is met. This involves responding to queries, emails, calls, texts, requests for material, meetings (in person or online) and also liaising with various parties.
  • Oversee and monitor financial performance of projects to minimize the project’s exposure to financial risk.
  • To monitor and renew contracts, licenses, lease, agreements, road tax for vehicles, websites and other relevant paperwork to help ensure continuity of work arrangements.
  • Monitor, maintain and disburse MEME’s Petty Cash disbursement and expenditure.
  • To ensure necessary research permits and approvals are obtained for the project and help facilitate student permits with relevant authorities/departments and organisations.
  • To facilitate research related activities (manpower, assets, equipment, vehicles etc), supported by field team.
  • To represent MEME at meetings, workshops and other events, when necessary, supported by team members.
  • To produce relevant documentation (grant proposals, project reports, resource materials) when necessary.
  • To monitor and maintain the various databases, data, information, asset, equipment and reference materials systematically.

Job Requirements:

  • Preferably Bachelor/Masters in Environmental Science/Environmental Management/Conservation Science, Social Sciences, Agriculture/Plantations, or possess any related background and experience.
  • Demonstrated strengths in leadership and management skills, able to adapt to different work environments and is comfortable to engage with people and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated skills or experience with project management and event organising.
  • At least 2 to 3 years of working experience in related field.
  • Able to work under pressure and a good team player.
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English. Ability to speak and write in Bahasa Malaysia and other languages is an added advantage.
  • Possess valid driving license. Ability to drive manual 4WD vehicles is an added advantage.
  • Willing to be posted at University Nottingham Malaysia campus in Semenyih and willing to travel to other states for work purposes, meetings, workshops and trainings.
