Shi Hao Lim (Master’s in Pharmacy, 2012) is currently a market access and public affairs manager for Malaysia and Singapore at Takeda, a Japanese multinational biopharmaceutical company. He shares his career journey with us.
Having started his career as a community pharmacist, Shi Hao then joined an NGO before his current role in corporate, which he describes as an interesting journey that allows him to see things from different perspectives.
He finds his work, where he supports his colleagues to improve patient access to innovative medicines, rewarding especially because he knows that his work contributes to the health and better quality of life for patients.
In terms of the future of his career, Shi Hao notes that it is important to keep an open mind towards opportunities, as many new roles often emerge these days.
The knowledge, soft skills and network building he acquired during his years at UNM and UoN helped him greatly in his career path. However, he also encourages pharmacy students to actively participate in events, especially pharmacy-related activities so that they can hone their skills further, aware of the latest updates and not miss out on any new opportunities.
One of the things Shi Hao misses the most about UNM is spending his free time mingling with peers from the different cultures thanks to the University’s multinational student population. He also misses the many events UNM used to host.
Finally, for those who wish to follow a similar career path to his, Shi Hao has the following advice:
“You may not get the job you desire upon graduation or you may not even know what you want, that's alright. Be patient as good things take time. Make sure your time at UNM is well-spent.”
