Outstanding Malaysians recognised with Alumni Laureate Awards

September 2015 marks the 15th anniversary of The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC). On 26 September, a gala dinner party was held in Kuala Lumpur in celebration of this milestone; in attendance were honoured guests and friends from Malaysia and the UK including Her Royal Excellency Tuanku Zara, Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir David Greenaway and UNMC Provost Professor Christine Ennew. Alongside the anniversary celebrations, the event also saw the presentation of the 2015 Alumni Laureate Awards. 

Lifetime Achievement Award

Y.A.M Tunku Tan Sri Imran ibni Almarhum Tuanku Ja’afar and The Honorable Datuk Dr Prasad Sandosham Abraham have been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. This significant recognition is presented to individuals who have achieved extraordinary levels of success.

Tunku Imran has received the award in recognition of his enduring and significant commitment to sport on a global stage, including in his current roles as President of the Commonwealth Games Federation and President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia. Datuk Dr Prasad has been recognised for his contributions to the legal profession, including in his current role as a Court of Appeal judge, and achievements throughout his career.  

Special Excellence Award

Ruth Yeoh has been awarded the Special Excellence Award in recognition of her career achievements. Ruth is a fourth generation Yeoh in YTL Corporation Berhad, the business her family has grown from a small construction company to Malaysia’s biggest infrastructure conglomerate with extensive international operations. 

Ruth is the Executive Director at YTL Singapore and heads the environmental division, where she reports on the organisation’s environmental activities. She is also a director at YTL SV Carbon, the company’s in-house carbon credit and clean development mechanism consultancy. 

Alumnus of the Year Award

The 2015 Alumnus of the Year Award was presented to Cheng Pheng Saw for his contribution to sports in co-founding the PCFreestyle and D Skills Academy, which provides freestyle football workshops and coaching classes, as well as providing opportunities for talented individuals to perform in stage shows, video commercials and at events.  The award recognises Cheng Pheng Saw’s enterprising career path and his development of a passion into a successful business model.
