Internship: United Nations Development Programme (Indonesia)

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Internship in Communications (Deadline for Application: 20 August 2013) 

Description: 
The Indonesian office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is advertising a 6-month internship, open to those who are enrolled in a postgraduate degree in a relevant field at the time of application. The intern will be based in the Office of the Resident Coordinator (RC Office) in Jakarta.

Tasks include:

  • Track UN agency and joint programmes, activities and events, as well as key national and global political and development-related events of significance to UN in Indonesia and assist in sharing gathered information within the UN and with relevant stakeholders
  • Gather information from UN agencies for the UN In Indonesia website and provide creative inputs for maintenance of website
  • Provide support to answering queries on the UN system in Indonesia
  • Assisting in coordination of UNPDF working groups
  • Research key issues and provide support in the preparation of speeches/talking points, presentations, press releases, reports, briefings etc.
  • Provide support to developing one-pagers and other communication materials on the UN in Indonesia and related topics
  • Editing and improving the lay-out of documents as needed
  • Provide support to MY World survey promotion activities
  • Providing backstopping and logistical support for organisation of UN events 
  • Day-to-day support to the work of the Resident Coordinator and his office as requested

Required Skills and Experience:  
The following minimum qualifications are required: 
  • Enrolled in a graduate-level degree programme (in political science, social science, international relations, economics, communications, or related field, at the time of application and during the internship;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of - or proven interest in - international relations and UN system coordination and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially writing skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently within the overall team; 
  • Diplomacy, tact and patience;
  • Fluency in spoken and written English;
  • Good computer literacy in MS Office software applications (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Knowledge of InDesign desirable but not required
Financial Issues: 
Interns are not financially remunerated by the RC Office.
All costs connected with an intern's participation in the Programme must be borne by:
  1. the nominating institution, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; 
  2. the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel (including to and from the office), visas, accommodation, insurance etc.
