Dr Ahamed Miflah Hussain Ismail, a lecturer in the School of Psychology, published a joint paper in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B titled "A perceptual bias for man-made objects in humans", in November 2019. In this paper, Dr Miflah and his colleagues assessed what people saw when given hybrid test items created from a superimposition of man-made objects such as houses and vehicles, and naturally occurring objects such as animals and flowers. They found that people reported seeing the man-made objects more often as compared to the natural objects.
