Dr Kirsten McKenzie's work published in Neuropsychologia

This study used functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging to investigate the brain areas involved in illusory sensations of touch. It was found that these experiences were mediated by decision-making areas in the medial parietal and medial prefrontal cortex, rather than in primary sensory areas; providing provide evidence for a top-down influence on somatic misperception.
