UNMC Assistant Professor analyses Brazil's political crisis in London

UNMC Assistant Professor Guy Burton presented an excerpt from his forthcoming book at the ‘Brazil: What’s Next?’ workshop held at King’s College London on 20-21 July.



Dr Burton discussed the current political crisis in Brazil and its implications for the political system. He explained that despite Congress and Senate voting to hold an impeachment trial against President Dilma Rousseff, that this does not mean the political system is broken.

Dr Burton’s analysis was based on work that he and his co-author, Professor Ted Goertzel, have examined in their forthcoming book, Presidential Leadership in the Americas since Independence, which will be published by Lexington Books, an imprint of Rowman & Little, in October 2016.

Dr Burton has done a number of media appearances to explain the situation in Brazil for Malaysians in recent months.



Dr Burton’s interest in the politics of Brazil stems from his previous research on the comparative politics of Latin America, for which he received his doctorate from the LSE in 2009. In addition he has published journal articles and book chapters on the political situation in that region.
