UNM and SJTULEC Signs MoU To Expand International Education Pathways

Semenyih, Selangor, 9 April 2025 - In a landmark move to foster global collaboration and academic mobility, the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University Lifelong Education College (SJTULEC), signed a Partnership Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), paving the way for enhanced international education opportunities.  

The hybrid signing ceremony, held on 9 April 2025, brought together senior representatives from both institutions, alongside key education partner Metro Education, underscoring a shared commitment to delivering high-quality, globally recognised education.

Notable attendees included Mr. Jagdish Singh, Director of Student Recruitment and Marketing at UNM; Ms. Shieu Ye Au, Ms. Bee Bee Gan, and Mr. Chen Yang Lwee from UNM; as well as Dr. Wang Xinrong, Vice Dean of SJTULEC; Mr. Shanfeng, and Ms. Xia Shuyi from SJTU. From Metro Education, Mr. Eugene Tan, CEO, and Ms. Amanda Hu were also present. The event featured welcome addresses and remarks that reaffirmed the institutions’ shared vision of expanding access to global education, followed by the official signing ceremony and a group photo session. 

The partnership recognises the International Undergraduate 2+2 International Pathway Programme, delivered by SJTULEC in collaboration with Metro Education. Under this agreement, students enrolled through this programme will complete their first two years at SJTULEC before progressing to Year 2 of selected undergraduate programmes at UNM.  

The eligible programmes at UNM include:  

  • BSc (Hons) Finance, Accounting and Management 

  •  BSc (Hons) Business, Economics and Finance 

  •  BSc (Hons) International Business Management

This collaborative initiative aims to offer students a seamless academic transition and a truly global learning experience. By bridging educational excellence between two leading universities, the partnership provides students with the opportunity to develop international perspectives, gain cross-cultural competencies, and graduate with a world-class qualification. The collaboration also reflects both universities’ dedication to advancing transnational education and broadening access to international study opportunities. 

As global education continues to evolve, this agreement marks a significant milestone in promoting academic exchange and mutual understanding between Malaysia and China. It also highlights the growing importance of institutional partnerships in shaping the future of higher education.
