University of Nottingham Renews Partnership with Kasetsart University, Strenghtening Academic and Research Collaboration

On 21 August 2024, the University of Nottingham renewed its partnership with Kasetsart University, a leading public university in Thailand, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This renewed partnership highlights the University of Nottingham’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation, building on a previous partnership between the UK campus and Kasetsart University, that resulted in 27 co-authored research publications, faculty visits, research placements, and student exchanges. 

The renewed partnership spans across the UK, Malaysia, and China campuses, aiming to enhance collaborative efforts, including student exchange programmes, joint research projects, and other academic initiatives.

The MoU was signed by Professor Jane Norman, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at University of Nottingham; Professor David FitzPatrick, Interim Provost and CEO of University of Nottingham Malaysia; and Kasetsart University’s Acting President, Dr Chongrak Wachrinrat, along with Associate Professor Dr Apisit Songsasen.

During the signing ceremony at UNM, Professor David FitzPatrick, Interim Provost and CEO shared, “Our vision for this renewed partnership extends to include other schools and departments within our tri-campus network, reaching into our broader academic community. We aspire to deepen this collaboration across all our campuses, fostering a multidisciplinary approach that harnesses the collective strengths and expertise of both institutions. This renewed MoU is not just a formal agreement; it is a declaration of our shared commitment to advancing knowledge, sparking innovation, and creating enriching opportunities for our students and faculty. Together, we will explore new frontiers in research, exchange diverse perspectives, and cultivate mutual growth and development.” 

Expanding Student Exchange Opportunities 
The MoU also facilitates student exchanges between the University of Nottingham’s tri-campus network and Kasetsart University. Through a recognised exchange programme, students will have the opportunity to study abroad at the partner institution for a given period, immersing themselves in different academic environments and cultures. The exchange programme also aims to enhance students' adaptability, cross-cultural communication skills, and professional networks. 

Strengthening Faculty Collaboration 
In addition to student exchanges, the MoU includes provisions for the exchange of faculty members between the two universities. This exchange will promote the sharing of knowledge, teaching practices, and research expertise, benefiting both staff and students  

Collaborating on Joint Research Projects 
Research collaboration is another key aspect of the partnership. The MoU outlines a commitment to coordinate joint or collaborative research projects enabling both institutions to pool their expertise, resources, and networks to address complex global challenges. This collaboration aims to produce impactful research, drive innovation and contribute to sustainable development. 

This renewed collaboration with Kasetsart University represents a significant milestone in University of Nottingham’s journey toward academic excellence and global engagement. By forging strong international partnerships, the University of Nottingham continues to solidify its position as a leader in higher education. This MoU not only expands the university's research and educational horizons but also underscores its commitment to cultivating a vibrant, interconnected academic community.
