On July 25, 2024, the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) and Smart Tradzt formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed between Professor David FitzPatrick, Interim Provost and CEO at UNM and Mr Chung Chee Kong, Managing Director of Smart Tradzt, and was witnessed by UNM’s Vice Provost of Research and Knowledge Exchange (RKE), Professor Ir Dr Mohd Shahir Liew and Smart Tradzt’s Chief Architect, Mr Lee Kher Wei. This strategic partnership focuses on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives and Blockchain technology. It aims to foster potential research collaborations with external parties and institutions, improve collaboration for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and energy efficiency, and train third parties on ESG matters, especially in managing carbon emissions and trading.
UNM has consistently been at the forefront of addressing global challenges through education and research. The collaboration with Smart Tradzt, a leading technology and sustainability solutions provider, aims to enhance the university's capabilities in ESG. This partnership will facilitate knowledge sharing, research, and the development of innovative solutions that promote sustainability across various sectors.
By partnering with Smart Tradzt, UNM aims to bridge the gap between academic research and practical applications in ESG. The MoU outlines several key areas of collaboration, including joint research projects, the development of ESG-focused curricula, and the organisation of seminars and workshops to raise awareness about sustainability issues.
Following the MoU signing, Smart Tradzt conducted a comprehensive training session on Carbon Footprint and Decarbonisation, equipping UNM researchers and staff with valuable insights and case studies. This partnership is anticipated to strengthen UNM's dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship, driving impactful changes in ESG practices.
The MoU between UNM and Smart Tradzt underscores both institutions' commitment to a sustainable future. By working together, both UNM and Smart Tradzt aim to create a positive impact on society and the environment, contributing to the global effort to achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
UNM is excited about the potential of this partnership and looks forward to the many opportunities it will bring for students, faculty, and the wider community. Together with Smart Tradzt, UNM is taking a significant step towards advancing ESG excellence and ensuring that sustainability remains at the heart of its educational and research mission.
