A Competition Resurrected
The gap between the last competition in 2019 and its return in 2025 was largely a result of the global challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. During this period, UNM prioritised supporting its students through unprecedented difficulties. Additionally, UNAM underwent structural changes, including the loss of its former President and founder, the late Tengku Ahmad Rithauddeen Ismail. In 2024, under the leadership of its new President, Dato' Seri Mustapa, UNAM reignited its collaboration with UNM to bring this esteemed competition back to life.

Celebrating a Visionary Legacy
Tengku Ahmad Rithauddeen Ismail was a dynamic figure in Malaysian history. He served as Defence Minister (1987–1990), Foreign Minister (between 1975 and 1986), and Trade and Industry Minister (1981). His influence extended far beyond politics, leaving a lasting impact on Malaysia’s international relations and national development. Notably, he played a key role in the groundbreaking ceremony in January 2002 for UNM’s purpose-built campus in Semenyih, reflecting his commitment to advancing education in Malaysia.
He was conferred a Doctor of Laws honoris causa during UNM’s first graduation ceremony in 2002 and later received the University Alumni Laureate Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. As a founding member of UNAM, he was honoured as an Ambassador for Peace on World Peace Day in 2005, exemplifying his leadership and dedication to fostering international collaboration. His vision was instrumental in establishing the University of Nottingham’s first UK-based campus in Malaysia.
As we celebrate UNM’s 25th anniversary, this competition serves as a tribute to his enduring legacy and passion for education for all Malaysians.
