Dr Tissa Chandesa Explores the Future of AI at TEDxSJIIM Youth

With Artificial Intelligence (AI) being the most trending topic today, our very own Dr Tissa Chandesa from UNM’s School of Computer Science was invited to present at the prestigious TEDx talk in early summer 2024. 

The TEDx event, successfully organized by TEDxSJIIM Youth, revolved around the theme "To Infinity and Beyond." Dr Tissa Chandesa captivated the audience by discussing the limitless possibilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its profound impact on society. 

During his talk, Dr Tissa highlighted the evolution of AI as a subset of computer science, tracing its roots back to early theoretical concepts and ideas that have now become reality due to technological advancements. He explained how AI, now the nucleus of computer science, is automating tasks at unprecedented speeds and scales, fundamentally changing industries such as customer service, finance, and healthcare. 

Dr Tissa also discussed the transformative impact of AI on the workforce and education. He noted that new graduates and current students are better equipped to navigate the digital world compared to previous generations, emphasising the need for society to adapt to the presence of AI.  

The talk concluded with Dr Tissa reflecting on the future of AI, expressing pride in the field's advancements over the past 20+ years. He left the audience with a powerful message: AI presents limitless possibilities, and we are only just beginning to explore its full potential. 

Dr Tissa Chandesa's insightful presentation at TEDxSJIIM Youth not only highlighted the ongoing revolution in AI but also inspired attendees to think critically about how we can harness this technology for the betterment of society.
