This is a notice that a payment gateway vendor of the university, iPay88 (M) Sdn Bhd or known as iPay88, announced a potential data breach incident recently. A forensic investigation is underway with the involvement of the Malaysian authorities.
We do not have detailed information at this moment and have written to iPay88 to request the results of their findings once it is available. Quoting the Central Bank of Malaysia’s statement, the potential breach originated from and is confined to iPay88’s card systems. This potential breach does not involve the University of Nottingham Malaysia’s own systems.
Several international students have reported fraudulent use of their credit cards therefore we ask that you check your credit cards for any suspicious or unauthorised transactions if you have used iPay88 recently for payments to the university or other websites which use iPay88.
Please report any suspicious transactions to your bank immediately, and ensure you adhere to best practices when transacting online.
The university takes cybersecurity and data protection seriously therefore we will be reviewing the additional security protocols that iPay88 has implemented to reduce the possibility of a data breach.
We have been assured that iPay88 has taken additional precautions to secure their systems whilst the investigation is ongoing and the university will continue to remain vigilant as always.
