University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) Research and Knowledge Exchange Manager Nengaswary Maniam (Eeish), was awarded the 2021 AACSB Influential Leader Award. Nengaswary is the only Malaysian to have been awarded the recognition this year among the 25 Global Award Recipients.

AACSB’s annual Influential Leaders initiative recognises notable graduates from AACSB-accredited business schools across the world. AACSB recently announced its 2020 business accreditation standards and a renewed focus on creating positive societal change. With this as a guide, the 2021 Class of Influential Leaders honours business school graduates who are using their business education to transform their communities in unique ways.

According to a statement by AACSB, Nengaswary is passionate about enhancing the value of the younger generation. Her community service activities are targeted at youth, women and young girls through human value programmes such as Women Empowerment Programmes: Own Your Destiny, Elevate Your Life.

This programme aims to create awareness among women on important issues relevant to their lives and their emotional health. It also aims to help women unlock their capabilities and help them fulfil their needs and achieve self-transformation and realisation.

Nengaswary has also led capacity-building programmes for educators to grasp 21st century teaching methodologies. In addition, she also conducted the Rise for VIP programme which nurtures teenage girls, helps them develop strong mental health, and affirms and encourages them for their journeys ahead.

Nengaswary received a certificate of recognition from Ministry of Health Malaysia for being the lead facilitator of an international fellowship program. She has served as the Deputy Director for Professional Development for the Project Management Institute Malaysia Chapter and has given invited speeches at institutions locally and internationally. Her passion for and involvement in talent development initiatives has resulted in invitations to attend meetings in Malaysia with the former U.S. President Barack Obama and the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi as stated in the AACSB statement.

“I am truly humbled to receive this award and privileged to share the global award platform with distinguished experts of different domains. It is truly a significant recognition; and an uplifting opportunity to work further and to be mindful of how my work affects people lives as much ashow it contributes to the bottom line.

Personally, this is also a starting point for a great new beginning, a beginning that today is needed more than ever to enable me to make even greater contributions towards society and the business environment.”
