University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) researcher Professor Ir Dr Dominic C. Y. Foo, has been appointed as a Kesatria by Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB). Professor Foo was among the four newly appointed Kesatria (conference ambassador) for programmes run by MyCEB throughout 2020. Kesatria are often the president or past president of national associations or industry leaders in their field of expertise and recognised for their professional achievements in bidding for and hosting major international conventions.
Professor Foo who is currently the Vice President for Asia Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering (APCChE), as well as the past chairman (sessions 2012-2014) for the Chemical Engineering Technical Division of Institution of Engineers Malaysia (CETD, IEM) is also the Professor of Process Design and Integration in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at UNM. Professor Foo is now leading the team at CETD IEM to organise the coming APCChE Congress 2021, which will take place at Kuala Lumpur in August 2021.
“I thank MyCEB for appointing me as a Kesatria. Being a conference ambassador, I will do my best to promote Malaysia as a host for important conferences,” said Professor Foo.
Professor Foo is a member of professional engineering bodies in Malaysia and the UK including IEM and APCChE, which he also serves as Malaysia Chair for the Education Special Interest Group of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE). Prior to this appointment, Professor Foo was appointed as Fellow with the Academy of Science Malaysia (ASM).
He has won several awards in recognition of his research including the IChemE Innovator of the Year Award in 2009, the IEM Young Engineer Award 2010. In 2012, the Junior Chamber International lauded him with the Outstanding Young Malaysian Award while in 2013 he received the Award for Outstanding Asian Researcher and Engineer from the Society of Chemical Engineers Japan (SCEJ). In 2016, he was appointed as the Top Research Scientist Malaysia (TRSM) by the ASM.

MyCEB is a non-profit organisation established in 2009 by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) to further strengthen Malaysia’s business tourism brand and position for the international business events market. MyCEB serves as a central hub to assist meeting and event planners to bid for and stage international business events in Malaysia and act as a conduit for national product development. MyCEB’s goal is to improve its rankings as an international meetings destination within International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and to grow business tourism arrivals to Malaysia.
