The 2019 School of Education Awards Ceremony was held at the Marriott Hotel, Putrajaya on 13 December 2019. The event brought the curtains down on another successful and eventful year for the School of Education and its students.
The night aimed to bring together lecturers, current students, faculty administration staff and alumni to celebrate and honour the outstanding work done by the members of the school. It was heartening to see so many alumni participating in the event and sharing how their lives and careers have been propelled by the learning and experience at UNM.
The evening was filled with glamour and pageantry, exciting activities including student and staff performances and video montages. The standout staff performances included Dr Alberto Luis August’s saxophone duet with his daughter, and Nabila Shariff Al-Baiti’s rendition of Thank You by Dido. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of more than 50 awards to staff, undergraduate, masters, PhD and alumni.
The Undergraduate Student of the Year award went to Anushka Sajani Karunaweera, while Postgraduate Student of the Year was won by Chai Xun Yu. Other awards for academics, and research excellence and various contributions to the school, university and community were also presented. Twelve awards were presented to faculty members for various contributions to the school. The Head of School Professor Ganakumaran Subramaniam received two awards namely the Most Creative Award and Best Postgraduate Lecturer Award. The Lecturer of the Year award went to Dr. Alberto Luis August.
To add fun to the evening, personality awards were given to students. There were six categories under this award - friendliest, funniest, most inspiring, most creative, most chill and most driven. Sixteen undergraduate students and four postgraduate students received these awards. Awards were also presented to recognise students for professionalism, attendance, and artistic and sporting talents.
The School of Education Awards Night is designed to embody the school’s philosophy of humanistic, transformational, holistic and inclusive education aimed at achieving high standards and improving the lives of individuals and communities.
