University of Nottingham Malaysia School of Psychology turned 10 in September 2019, a celebration was held with staff, students and alumni to mark this anniversary on 20 October 2019. The school was founded in 2009, and its establishment was led by Professor Peter Mitchell, who was the first Head of School, alongside academics from the School, Dr Elizabeth Sheppard, Dr Neil Mennie and Rika Imada. Professor Mitchell was present to officiate the event.
It was the inaugural event organised by the School, and had a Golden Gatsby themed ball, which searched for the best-dressed man and woman, termed as for Jay and Daisy.
The evening kicked off with an outstanding performance by Sharpshooter, followed by opening speech by the University Vice-Provost (Research and Knowledge Exchange) Professor Deborah Hall.
September 2019 marks the 10-year anniversary of the School of Psychology at the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM).The School was founded in 2009, and its establishment was led by Professor Peter Mitchell, who acted as the first Head of School, alongside Dr Elizabeth Sheppard.
There was a performance by student of the school who was performed two songs, titled Isn’t She Lovely and Fly Me to the Moon. Thereafter, there was an Acapella performance by Psychotonic, alumni sharing session and video recorded from the second and previous Head of School, Dr Elizabeth Sheppard.
The night became more exciting when they have found Jay and Daisy, the King and Queen of the night, an alumnus and staff at the University, Dr Ahamed Miflah and Balqis Hafni, a third year student. The school also proudly presented an award to two excellent students named Shemone Anne Jeyame Felsinger and Kinenoita Irwantoro for an achievement in Best Performing Student. In addition, an Outstanding Contributions Award and a Special Service Award were awarded to Professor Peter Mitchell and Miss Rika Imada, respectively before the end of the night with a closing speech by Head of School Dr David Keeble.
“The School of Psychology started as a small school with only 17 students, and after a decade, the School now has more than 400 alumni across the globe. I remember our students being really intelligent and hardworking and I am really proud of them,” said Professor Peter Mitchell at the dinner.
