The winning team, Team AWZone, which comprised of final-year Business School students Alvin Ng Wei Yan, Wong Wee Wen and Zachary Luke Chee, beat nine other finalists in the competition finals held on 13 April 2019. Alvin Ng was also a finalist for the ‘Best Presenter’ title.
“The PwC Trust Builders Challenge was a truly insightful experience, where we learnt how to rebuild trust in the context of a company that had just experienced a crisis. Through this, we realised the significance of trust and how it governs the interactions in our everyday lives,” said team member Alvin.
“One of the best things about this competition was the opportunity to gain insights from experienced mentors. Given that these were veterans of the industry with vast amounts of experience, we learnt to formulate realistic recommendations and sharpen our understanding of trust under their guidance. All in all, it was an unforgettable experience, and I would definitely recommend this challenge to anyone who wants to sharpen their minds and garner valuable insights from industry leaders.”
As champion, the team won a sponsored trip to PwC Vietnam, internships with PwC Malaysia, job shadowing with PwC’s senior leadership, and networking opportunities at PwC’s Building Trust Awards.
“We are very proud of our students’ achievements at the 2019 PwC Trust Builders Challenge, and grateful that they have had this opportunity to bridge academic learning with real-world experience in an important contemporary issue in business,” says Dr Lau Chee Kwong, Dean of NUBS Malaysia.
The competition’s judging panel comprised of the Managing Partner of PwC Malaysia Sridharan Nair, PwC Malaysia Markets Leader Nurul A’in Abdul Latif, PwC Malaysia Partner and Forensic Services & Risk Consulting Leader Alex Tan, Iclif Leadership and Governance Centre CEO Rajeev Peshawaria, and Special Officer to the Minister of Finance Malaysia Toh Yen Kee.
