The University of Nottingham Malaysia has been awarded Tier 5 (Excellent) status in the rating system for Malaysian higher education institutions by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) under the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. The University of Nottingham Malaysia also has 5-star rating in the Malaysian Research Assessment exercise (MyRA), making it the highest rated international university in Malaysia in terms of the quality of its research and innovation.
“The University of Nottingham Malaysia is proud to play its role in the Malaysian higher education environment. This rating is an acknowledgment of our contribution to the broader aims of the Malaysian Higher Education Blueprint” said University of Nottingham Malaysia’s Vice-Provost (Teaching & Learning) Professor Ong Fon Sim.
The objective of SETARA is to enhance the quality of higher education in Malaysia and this exercise involves a rigorous assessment conducted by MQA. Public and private universities were assessed under four criterias; institutional profiles; teaching and learning; research capacity and services and income generation.
According to University of Nottingham Malaysia’s CEO and Provost Professor Graham Kendall: “We are proud that we are continually highly rated in exercises such as MyRA and SETARA, as well achieving in many other areas of both student and staff activity. As a UK university that has been in Malaysia for almost 20 years we feel that we are now an established part of the higher education landscape and make a recognised contribution to the sector. Ratings such as SETARA and MyRA validate what we are doing, but we are conscious that this is just a snapshot of our performance at a given point in time and that we have to continually develop and improve."

Since 2010, the University of Nottingham Malaysia has held the award of ‘Excellent’ status from SETARA and Self-Accreditation Status from MOHE. The University’s research excellence has also been recognised with a 5-star rating in MyRA since 2014.
