University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus hosted a technical meeting for a group of delegates from China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC), a large Chinese Construction Company, on 25 August 2017 for a Building Information Modelling (BIM) Research Collaboration.
The delegates were from the company’s BIM team and lead by the Head of Human Resource Department Qin Fu Hua.
Also in attendance at the meeting were representatives from University of Nottingham Malaysia’s MOU partner, MES Asia CEO Miranda Lui and Project Manager Kevin Kuo.
The technical meeting was organised following the presentation by University of Nottingham Malaysia Dean of Engineering Professor Andy Chan and his team, based on CREC on the Proposed Talent Collaboration with Local & Foreign Universities in Malaysia: Internship, BIM Centre, and Sponsorship for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students entitled ‘UNMC-CREC BIM Centre’ on 8 August 2017 at the CREC Office.
The purpose of the technical meeting was to discuss the future research direction after knowledge exchange between the University, CREC and MES Asia. A technology demonstration by both University of Nottingham Malaysia and MES Asia was the second agenda of the meeting. Virtual Reality (VR) was demonstrated by the University of Nottingham Malaysia Assistant Professor Dr Wong Jing Ying whereas Augmented Reality (AR) was demonstrated by Sr Miranda Lui from MES Asia.
A campus and laboratory tour were then conducted by University of Nottingham Malaysia Head of Department of Civil Engineering Ioannes Tang, accompanied by academic and technicians from the Department of Civil Engineering. The campus tour is important to show the availability of civil engineering testing facilities at UNMC to CREC delegates.
According to UNMC academic Wong Jing Ying: “This technical meeting was fruitful as both parties were satisfied with the identified potential future research collaboration. We are looking forward to have an intensive and close collaboration with CREC in research, internship placement and graduate employability.”
Following the presentation, a MOU between UNMC and CREC will be signed focusing on internship placement and a graduate employability initiative.

Notes to editors: The University of Nottingham has 43,000 students and is ‘the nearest Britain has to a truly global university, with a “distinct” approach to internationalisation, which rests on those full-scale campuses in China and Malaysia, as well as a large presence in its home city’ (Times Good University Guide 2016). It is also one of the most popular universities in the UK among graduate employers and the winner of ‘Outstanding Support for Early Career Researchers’ at the Times Higher Education Awards 2015. It is ranked in the world’s top 75 by the QS World University Rankings 2015/16, and 8th in the UK by research power according to the Research Excellence Framework 2014. It has been voted the world’s greenest campus for four years running, according to Greenmetrics Ranking of World Universities.
Impact: The Nottingham Campaign, its biggest-ever fundraising campaign, is delivering the University’s vision to change lives, tackle global issues and shape the future.
