The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) hosts the Nottingham Tri Campus Games, an annual event which involves the participation of The University of Nottingham students from Malaysia, United Kingdom and China.
UNMC brought home the gold medal last year after a competitive run of sporting events held at The University of Nottingham, UK with key wins in the men’s football, mixed volleyball, squash and tennis.
“It is an exciting time for us in Malaysia, it is somewhat an annual gold rush in sport and we are looking forward to battling it out over the course of seven days to determine the winner of each category and the overall champion's trophy,” said Max Lim, UNMC Team Captain.
A total of 60 athletes from each campus will be competing at Badminton, Basketball, Football, Squash, Tennis, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Ultimate Frisbee from 11 to 17 June.
"It is a challenge for us to retain the overall trophy. However, our players are prepared and they are all out to make it happen again. We hope to win the men's football, badminton and table tennis, as they are games which we are traditionally good at,” said Lim.
At the Nottingham Tri Campus Games 2015, UNMC won eight gold medals out of the 14 games in which they had participated. The wins included men's football, men's badminton, squash in both the women’s and men’s teams, tennis in both the men’s and women’s teams, women's table tennis and mixed volleyball.
The Tri Campus Games 2016 will be officially opened by Professor Christine Ennew, CEO and Provost of UNMC, on 12 June with the song from Pitch Perfect – Bellas Finals, which will be a choir performance featuring a cast from The University’s students. In conjunction with the Games, UNMC is also hosting the Tri Campus Arts Festival from 8 to 12 June.
“Events such as games and arts create an excellent platform for students to collaborate and work with the best talents from the UK and China. As a global university, these events build a competitive spirit for the teams, as well as provide an excellent student experience which is beneficial to their growth as individuals well beyond their university days,” said Professor Ennew.
Each year the Tri Campus Games is a week-long festival of sport with the theme, “Friendship through sport”.
The Tri Campus Games is a unique event within higher education, taking place at one of the University's international campuses each year and involving nearly 200 student athletes from over 20 different nations. Underpinned by the ethos 'friendship through sport', the Games offer a fantastic opportunity for sporting and educational exchange in the friendly spirit of competition.

Notes to editors: The University of Nottingham has 43,000 students and is ‘the nearest Britain has to a truly global university, with a “distinct” approach to internationalisation, which rests on those full-scale campuses in China and Malaysia, as well as a large presence in its home city.’ (Times Good University Guide 2016). It is also one of the most popular universities in the UK among graduate employers and the winner of ‘Outstanding Support for Early Career Researchers’ at the Times Higher Education Awards 2015. It is ranked in the world’s top 75 by the QS World University Rankings 2015/16, and 8th in the UK by research power according to the Research Excellence Framework 2014. It has been voted the world’s greenest campus for four years running, according to Greenmetrics Ranking of World Universities.
Impact: The Nottingham Campaign, its biggest-ever fundraising campaign, is delivering the University’s vision to change lives, tackle global issues and shape the future.
