The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) football team won the MASISWA Zone Selangor Qualifying Round Football Championship 2015 held recently at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN).
UNMC emerged victorious after defeating Kolej University Islam Selangor in the finals with a score of 2-0. As the champions for central district of Selangor which covers Semenyih, Bangi, Gombak, Sepang, Sabak Bernam, Hulu Langat, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Kuala Langat, Kuala Selangor, and Petaling Jaya, UNMC’s team now qualifies to compete against 8 teams from universities around Malaysia for the national title which will take place from May 19 to 24 2016 at Universiti Teknologi Mara, (UiTM) Perak. The team received medal, certificates and a trophy.
“We are really pleased with this victory and proud of our boys who have all worked very hard daily to earn this title. This win also marks an improvement in the team’s performance since the previous year when we won the 3rd position in this same league,” said Maheswaran Ganesan, team manager.
“We are hopeful to win as the national champions and we are confident that with the guidance of our coach Desmond Amadi, it will be possible,” said Jibrin Abdu Gimba, who is studying masters in civil engineering at UNMC.

UNMC Sporting Life
The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus has a vibrant sporting community with a university team in football, futsal, basketball, tennis, swimming, freebie, badminton, cricket, hockey, squash, table tennis, dodgeball, volleyball, archery, netball, rugby, and martial arts. UNMC courts for badminton, basketball, futsal, netball, squash and volleyball; a fully-equipped gymnasium; and a multi-purpose room with table tennis equipment. Outdoor facilities include astro turf with seven-a-side football and hockey pitches; a jogging track; a multipurpose field with football and cricket pitches; a multipurpose court suitable for basketball, futsal and volleyball; and tennis courts. All students have full access to the use of all sporting facilities on campus.
Nottingham Tri Campus Games
Each year the Nottingham Tri Campus Games (TCG) brings together students from the three Nottingham Campuses (UK, China and Malaysia) to compete against each other in a week-long festival of sport.
TCG is a unique event within higher education, taking place at a different one of the University's international campuses each year and involving nearly 200 student athletes from over 20 different nations. It will be hosted by the University of Nottingham, UK in 20th June – 28th June 2016.
