Bank Negara Malaysia estimates that up to 56,000 new finance industry positions will be needed in the next decade, including up to 40,000 jobs in Islamic finance,” said Dr Nafis Alam, Director of the Centre for Islamic Business and Finance Research (CIBFR), The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) at the 11th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) 2015.
“Given the huge demand for Islamic finance graduates, UNMC is taking a lead with suitable postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in the Islamic banking and finance domain," Dr Alam said.
Dr Nafis Alam was invited as a panel member for a forum on Islamic Finance Education and Skills hosted by the UK Trade & Investment Malaysia at the 11th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) 2015 held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Malaysia recently.
At the panel discussion, Dr Nafis shared his views on how research done on critical issues surrounding global Islamic finance industry work at the University of Nottingham fits into the development of Islamic Finance education at its Malaysia campus. He also emphasised on the initiatives of University of Nottingham in the internationalisation of education by leveraging on the expertise of academicians at the University’s campuses in Malaysia and China."
The forum was inaugurated by The Rt. Hon. Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, United Kingdom and moderated by Tony Collingridge, Director of UK Trade & Investment, Malaysia. The other panellists were Daud Vicary, President and Chief Executive Officer, International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance and Ken McGowan, Regional Director – Asia, Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI).
