A football team from The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) has triumphed in the Higher Education Institutions Inter-College Football Tournament 2014 (HEIFT). An annual football tournament, which attracted students from institutions of higher education in Malaysia, HEIFT was held on October 11 at Bukit Jalil.
The Nottingham University Football Club (NUFC) won RM 1,000, a trophy and team members received a medal and certificate. UNMC students, Motaz Abdel Zahir, first year, electrical & electronic student and Tinashe Kitchen, final year MSc International Development Management student won the Top Scorer and Best Player titles at the tournament.
“We are immensely proud of our students’ achievements, academic and sporting, as well as their active involvement in community related work. At UNMC, we provide an opportunity for our students to develop skills in leadership, communications, integrity, empathy and team dynamics, alongside and in conjunction with their academic study.” said Professor Christine Ennew, CEO & Provost of UNMC.
This year, HEIFT was organised by FTMS Global Malaysia and officiated by Haji Saidon Suraji, Director of Youth & Sports Department and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Malaysia and IMalaysia for Youth.
NUFC comprise of Emaad Saad, Yazid Yusof , Tinashe Kitchen, Zayyad Tsrya, Amman Al-Kitani, Muhammad Nazir, Motaz Abdel Zahir, Yassin Abdel Aziz, Jubrin Abdul Gimba, Omar El-Shweekh, Hussein Inayat, Ahmed Al-Nahdi and Ahmed Al-Nahdi Motaz.
UNMC hosts a range of sporting activities for students with active teams in football, badminton, squash, tennis, frisbee , basketball who represent the university in local and international sporting tournaments. Every year Nottingham runs its Tri Campus Games for students from the University’s Campuses in Malaysia, the UK and China to compete in a week-long festival of sport; it attracts nearly 200 University of Nottingham student athletes from over 20 different nations and offers a fantastic opportunity for sporting and educational exchange in the friendly spirit of competition.
