United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) recently commended The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) for its efforts to train their volunteer teachers, provide professional consultancy to the refugee schools and organising education open days for refugee children at the UNMC campus
“We would like to convey our appreciation to UNMC and specifically its School of Education for this keen interest in refugee issues and the generosity shown in supporting our efforts to ensure that refugee children has access to education as an integral part of refugee protection,” said Niaz Ahmad, Programme Officer at UNHCR.
“We are now working on developing a proposal with UNHCR to identify ways through which qualified refugee children can enroll as students in private universities in Malaysia, including at the University of Nottingham. UNHCR has indicated that it may be able to secure some funds to support their education,” said Dr. Ganakumaran Subramaniam, Head of School of Education of UNMC.
According to Niaz, UNHCR welcomes such an agent of support and is honoured to consider UNMC’s School of Education as a partner.
“We are truly appreciative of Nottingham University Activity Day with the Nottingham University Activity Day with Teizang Zomi Education Centre and the Inclusion: A Child’s Right to Education” workshop on learning disabilities hosted by UNMC,” said Niaz.
The School of Education at UNMC recently organised conference, "Inclusion: A Child’s Right to Education" that witnessed the participation of many leading educators, researchers and representatives from NGOs from around the world.
