Syed Faiq Najeeb receives the award from Tan Seri Datuk Seri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia

Syed Faiq Najeeb Syed Najeeb Akhtar, a Nottingham alumnus, received the President’s Award for the academic year 2012-13 from the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) as he was the ‘Best Student of the Year’ for the institution’s Masters in Islamic Finance programme.

The Pakistani received the award for achieving an outstanding 3.98 CGPA, the highest in the history of INCEIF. He also completed the 24-month programme within 16 months.

Faiq graduated with a first class honours degree in International Business Management in 2009, from The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.

He developed an interest in Islamic Finance when he was working as a research analyst as part of his undergraduate studies. He was then awarded a scholarship from Bank Negara Malaysia to pursue postgraduate studies in Islamic Finance at INCEIF.

“I am grateful to Almighty Allah, family and friends for supporting me throughout this journey. Nonetheless, this award achievement is secondary, and my primary goal is to promote the Islamic financial system globally because to me it is a more resilient and reliable financial system,” Faiq said.

“We would like to congratulate Faiq on his achievement and for living up to the excellence which is synonymous with all Nottingham graduates,” said Professor Christine Ennew, Provost and CEO of The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.

Faiq is currently a research analyst with Islamic Finance at KFH Research Limited.

Faiq received the The President’s Award from Tan Seri Datuk Seri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia in October 2013.
