Nottingham MyResearch recently hosted a reception focusing on “Tax efficient ways to invest in R&D”, which was aimed at senior managers, corporate organisations, key public officials, researchers and academia.

Nottingham MyResearch, a MIDA R&D status company, offers partners the opportunity to receive a double taxation benefit when they invest in R&D.

"Nottingham MyResearch is a tax efficient way to invest in R&D, allowing industry partners to access University expertise, not just from our Malaysia campus but also from our other campuses in the UK and Ningbo, China. We provide a one stop shop to offer our partners tax advice, proposal development, project management, assistance with paperwork and business development and growth through R&D investments,” said Professor Graham Kendall, Vice Provost (Research and Knowledge Transfer) and CEO of Nottingham MyResearch.

Noor Aieda Ahmad, Director of R&D and Business Services Division at MIDA (Malaysian Investment Development Authority), said that “2013 was a record year for approved investment of R&D, amounting to RM216.5 billion and 5,669 projects. These investments have created 192,000 jobs. This indicates that Malaysia remains as an ideal location for new investments.”

"Nottingham MyResearch is a timely initiative to support Malaysia’s move towards R&D and

Innovation, as well as showcase British expertise," said Ray Kyles, Acting British High Commissioner in his welcoming speech.

Among the attendees of the event were Tony Collingridge OBE, Director of UK Trade and Investment; Stephen Hill, Deputy Director of UK Trade and Investment; Tan Sri Mustafa Mansur, Chairman of Nottingham MyResearch and Tuan Haji Sharudin Jaaffar, Director of Nottingham MyResearch and Dr Angelina Yee, Director of Industry Collaboration and Operations at Nottingham MyResearch.

The event was jointly organised by British High Commission in Malaysia, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority, British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Nottingham MyResearch.

The companies have access to world leading researchers and they are able to benefit from the double taxation benefits that an R&D MIDA status company provides. The University is able to work on an exciting variety of real world problems that can inform both their research and teaching,” said Professor Graham Kendall.
