Conference: A child's right to education

The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) is hosting an international conference entitled ‘Inclusion: A Child’s Right to Education’ on March 8.

Leading academics and researchers will be presenting the latest research on inclusive education for all children, especially those with special needs. The conference will highlight case studies from various countries and conclude with a workshop for participants.

Topics covered at the conference include cutting edge teaching strategies for inclusive settings, and inclusive policies across South-East Asia. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Min Bista from UNESCO’s Asia-Pacific Programme of Education for All in Bangkok.

Dr. Tida Tubpun, an expert in special educational needs at UNMC who has worked in schools in both the US and Thailand, commented, “Our research at the University of Nottingham has looked at how teachers in Malaysia support students with literacy and numeracy problems. This conference offers an avenue for teachers and researchers to share global best practice in this area.”

Dr. Matthew Schuelka, a specialist in inclusive practice across the region, also an academic from UNMC, added, “The issue of inclusion is of critical importance in Malaysian schools. The Malaysian government is committed to the principle of inclusion, so the support that conferences like this offer to teachers and researchers in Malaysia is vital.”

The Conference will be held at UNMC in Semenyih and costs RM120 (RM60 for students). Conference delegates will include policy makers, researchers, and academics, educators from schools and expert groups and NGOs.
