Minister Jeremy Browne visits University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus

Jeremy Browne, Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the UK and a former student of the University of Nottingham, visited the University of Nottingham Malaysia campus during his visit to Malaysia on 4th and 5th April.

Mr. Browne’s visit to the University of Nottingham Malaysia highlights the long standing educational links between Malaysia and the UK. During his inaugural visit to the Malaysia campus, Minister Browne addressed an audience of staff and students and toured the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences; Engineering and Science at the 125 acre campus.

“We are indeed proud to have the continued support of distinguished visitors at our campus and it also means a lot to us and the students to welcome a former graduate of Nottingham,” said Professor Ian Pashby, CEO & Provost of The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. Simon Featherstone, British High Commissioner to Malaysia said:

“We are delighted to see the expanding ties between Malaysia and the UK in the field of education, with Nottingham in the vanguard. Both Minister Browne and the sixth Malaysian Prime Minister are alumni of University of Nottingham in the UK. This exemplifies the wide-ranging cultural exchange between Malaysia and the UK. I am keen to see this vibrant relationship continue to develop."  

Mr. Browne studied politics at Nottingham University and has worked in the private sector in finance and global communications before embarking on a career in politics.

Also present during the visit were HE Simon Featherstone CMG, High Commissioner of UK to Malaysia; Professor Ian Pashby, CEO & Provost of the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus; Professor Stephen Doughty, Vice-Provost for Teaching and Learning at The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus; Professor Sayed Azam-Ali, Vice-Provost for Research and Internationalisation at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus; Peter Clack representing Mandy Johnson, Director of British Council; James Paver, Head of Political, Economics & Public Diplomacy of the British High Commission to Malaysia and senior officials from the British High Commission, together with members of staff and students of UNMC.

The University of Nottingham has several high profile alumni including HRH Sultan Azlan Shah and other key figures in Malaysia’s public and private sector.
