Dr. Seungyeon Lee is a passionate language teacher and scholar researching Korean culture. She teaches Korean language modules in the Language Centre. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Lee serves as the Director of the Language Centre, where she leads, oversees and manages the development and implementation of language programs, cultural activities and other initiatives. She is also a member of Malaysian Scholars on Korea (MASK) Network.
Dr. Lee successfully defended her dissertation titled: "Social Dynamics of Desire in Contemporary South Korea: An Analysis of The Handmaiden and Burning," earning her Ph.D. at the Department of English Language and Literature at Yonsei University, Seoul. Prior to her doctoral studies, she earned her MA in International Studies at the same university. Dr. Lee holds a certificate for teaching Korean as a foreign language (Level 3), and a certificate for teaching English at secondary schools in South Korea (Level 2). Her passion for language teaching was ignited during her undergraduate studies in English Language and Literature at the Catholic University of Daegu.
She convenes Korean language modules.
Her research interest lies in cultural studies: postcolonialism, psychoanalysis, and the link between language/culture and identity.
