English Winter Programme with Hanyang University, South Korea 2020

Award

The University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) recently hosted 17 English Education students from Hanyang University, South Korea on 4 January 2020. Accompanying the student participants was Prof. Yuah, from the Department of English Language Education at Hanyang University. The participants were in-campus for 2 weeks for an English Winter Programme 2020, organised by the Centre for English Language and Foundation Education (CELFE). Upon arrival, the accompanying lecturer and the participants were met with a warm welcome by CELFE’s Head of School, Ms Saleha Abdul Rahman. 

Welcome Ceremony

Spanning 2 weeks, CELFE English Winter Programme centered on providing the participants with a comprehensive view of English Education. A wide range of topics were covered in the lecture sessions, such as Brain Sciences, Academic Presentation techniques, and Methods for Building an Interactive Classroom.

Nabila

Throughout the programme, the participants were frequently tasked to prepare lesson plans that integrate the concepts and methods taught. The lecture sessions were also highly interactive, giving ample opportunities for the participants to hone their communicative English skills through group discussions and presentations. Given tasks were comprehensive to prepare participants who were assessed on their presentation and discussion skills by the end of the programme.

On the first weekend, the participants were brought on an exciting tour of the attractions around the city of Kuala Lumpur, including Batu Caves, the Central Market, Merdeka Square, and Suria KLCC.

They were able to witness the cultural heritage and iconic sights of Malaysia, which further enriched their experiences in the country.

The participants were also brought for a shopping trip to Pavilion Shopping mall on the following weekend.

The participants from Hanyang University cherished the time they spent at University of Nottingham Malaysia. The UNM campus received overall positive feedback from the participants who stated that they enjoyed the campus facilities and appreciated the mentoring sessions by UNM students, who were handpicked to be academic mentors for each group of participants.
