Dr Lawal has recently joined the School of Geography, as an Assistant Professor. He obtained his PhD in GIS and Geomatic Engineering (2006) from the Universiti Putra Malaysia. He served at the Computer Man University College (now The Future University Khartoum, Sudan) as an Assistant Professor where he taught Geographical Information systems (GIS), Remote Sensing and Cartography and GPS at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
He later served as the director of the Space Technology Center where he helped develop and manage training, projects and consultancy activities. He joined the Institute of Advanced Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia as a fellow researcher in 2010. He has authored 9 Indexed Journal papers, 18 Conference proceedings and supervised 2 postgraduate and 11 undergraduate students.
Lawal’s research interest is in geospatial applications in environmental planning and management, particularly in flood forecasting and monitoring and urban planning. Other area areas include feature extraction and change detection from remotely sensed data.
