AgrisGIS 2012 participants
Together with the Crops for the Future Research Centre, the School of Geography hosted the AgriGIS 2012 workshop at University of Nottingham, Semenyih campus on 10 May, 2012. Over 40 participants from industry, academic and private and public sector researchers with relevant expertise in both geospatial technologies and agriculture came to exchange knowledge on strategies for AgriGIS research.
The first keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Mike Jackson, Nottingham Geospatial Institute, UK and Chair of Association of Geographic Information Laboratories for Europe (AGILE) which highlighted the need and issues of crowd-source geo-data collection, validation and interoperability for AgriGIS.
The second speech was given by Associate Professor Abdul Rashid Bin Mohamed Shariff, Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia, who reviewed the AgriGIS research at UPM. Other presentations from academic, public and private sectors researchers reported the intensive deployment of geospatial technologies to agriculture in Asia and Europe.
The participants look forward to establishing collaboration, expanding research to underutilised crops and meeting again in the next event.
