Fact checking of news and information

About the module

Module description  

In this age of information overload, it is important to have critical digital media literacy skills to promote a healthy information and news ecosystem. This module offers an opportunity to students to take up fact checking skills. The module will expose students to learning opportunities on how to do fact checking, and apply these skills to real life cases and issues.Students are required to attend at least two meetings/workshops that have been scheduled, and work on various tasks associated to a fact checking exercise. Students will be included in a Teams group where online discussions can be held and tasks are updated during the semester. The module is available in Autumn and Spring, and is open for up to 15 slots each semester. Only applications received by the deadlines set will be considered.


Completion of the module will be based on the successful completion of all of the following:

1) attendance of at least 2 meetings/workshops during the semester

2) submission of exercises on fact checks assigned 

3) submission of one reflective journal.
