Recognition for NUBS Malaysia academic in raising the profile of the University in the field of Islamic Business and Finance

Dr Nafis Alam, Associate Professor of Finance at Nottingham University Business School Malaysia, received the Knowledge Exchange and Impact Award: International category at the University of Nottingham’s Knowledge Exchange and Impact Awards 2016 held on 5 May 2016 at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham, UK. 

The aim of the Awards is to recognise outstanding knowledge exchange activities amongst academic staff across The University of Nottingham. The ‘International’ category is for academic staff at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) and The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) who have undertaken significant knowledge exchange work, and the award is given to the academic from each campus that has made the biggest contribution to building the reputation for knowledge exchange at UNNC and UNMC during the last year. There is one award winner per campus from a final shortlist of five.

Out of four shortlisted nominees from UNMC, Dr Alam received the award for his contributions in raising the profile of UNMC in the field of Islamic Business and Finance. He also played a key role in establishing the Centre for Islamic Business and Finance Research, which brought in CEOs from local and international Islamic banks, think tanks and also from the World Bank. 

"This award is a testimony of all the hard work put into the development of Islamic finance as a new discipline at UNMC," said Dr Alam. "I would like to acknowledge the contribution of colleagues who have contributed towards the success of the Centre for Islamic Business and Finance Research."
