Nottingham University Business School Malaysia Director of Research, Dr Avvari V Mohan, presented a lecture at the National Art Gallery of Malaysia’s Bicara Seni (Art Talk) event in conjunction with the gallery’s exhibition ‘The Opera Omnia: Leonardo”. The one-day event, dubbed ‘Leonardologics - Lasting Lessons for Tomorrow’, featured talks by experts in diverse fields of interest inspired by the master artist’s intellectual heritage, and was held at the National Art Gallery’s Auditorium on 14 August 2019. The exhibition itself was a joint effort between the National Art Gallery and the Italian Embassy in Malaysia, which showcased digital reproductions of 17 paintings by Leonardo da Vinci.
Dr Mohan, who is also Associate Professor of Strategic Management at the Business School, spoke on ‘Understanding Linkages for Innovation - Learning from Leonardo’. In his talk, Dr Mohan brought up several points of note for entrepreneurs and individuals in organisations, drawing from practices and principes of Leonardo da Vinci. These included the importance of note-taking, the recommendation of studio-environment setups for reflecting and contemplation; and the application of the theory of bisociation, or the combination of elements drawn from two previously unrelated realms into a new pattern.
