First of all, I am looking forward to welcoming you to
The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. As part of your induction to your University studies, we are launching the
Nottingham Reading Programme. We hope that through this scheme you will take advantage of the opportunity to meet and socialise with other foundation students from across the campus through book discussions led by your foundation tutors where you can exchange ideas, opinions and experiences about a book that you will have all read.
This year, our chosen book is The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner by Alan Sillitoe which is available online and may be purchased at a reasonable price from Amazon, Abe Books, Kobo Books etc. These small-group discussions will take place on Wednesday 15 July 2015, from 5:30-7:30pm followed by a buffet dinner. The reading programme will include a poster competition where the winners’ art work will be displayed around campus.
Participation in the reading programme is voluntary, but we hope that you will take the opportunity to join the fun, learn from others’ viewpoints and opinions whilst making new friends and developing a love for reading. The only requirement to participate is to read the book and come along to the event on that day. Details of how to formally register for the reading programme and where the event will take place will be announced at Induction when you arrive.
I look forward to seeing you at the Nottingham Reading Programme on the 15 July 2015.
Best wishes
Prof Stephen Doughty
Vice Provost (Teaching and Learning)
